I agree he could be a good late round sleeper. My concern is that the Pirates seem to be picking up a lot of lefthanded OF/1B who might be platoon partners for Wilson. Ward, Singleton, and now rumors they are going after Simon or Travis Lee. If Wilson is only playing against lefties, he's not going to be worth a pick.
Even if he is Kendall's backup, it will only be about 20 games since Kendall plays so much. Now, if Kendall gets traded somehow (which right now isn't looking very likely), he might get more time because they will have to bring up Cota or J.R. House, and they are both younger guys, so they may use him more behind the plate.
Wilson is probably going to end up splitting time at a bunch of positions - first base, right field, and catcher. It's so hard to tell right now what he is exactly going to do because of all the people the Pirates are thinking about getting. Dave Littlefield said in an interview on Friday that the organization is determined on getting him more AB's this year. But, from all the people I have heard they are trying to land (Simon, Lee, Mondesi), and from the talk on various Pirate boards, I have a strange feeling he won't be an everyday player. I would be scared to draft him at this point.

i was looking for someone to confirm that wilson would be the pirates catcher this year.neither of your links did this.neither of your links even mentioned wilson's name.
if he had 21 games at C last year,he will be eligible there this year, but that still doesn't support the actual thread which implies that wilson will be the pirates catcher and not kendall.

As I said earlier, don't expect Wilson to be the catcher in Pittsburgh. The Kendall trade with SD fell through about two weeks ago. I can't see any other team who would want to take his contract. But, if it somehow happens, I assume there is a chance he could be moved to the everyday starting catcher. But, we just don't know what will happen yet!
I don't think Wilson's a great catcher anyway (at least the times I've seen him play there). If I were McClendon (which I'm not, and I barely can ever figure out what he's doing), and if Kendall left, I would bring up Cota or House (the two minor league catchers) and have Wilson and whoever is brought up split equal time at the spot. That way if the Pirates did acquire Simon or Lee, and/or Mondesi, he could still get more AB's by switching off catching duties and then playing 1B or RF on the other days.
If Kendall stays, there's no chance in heck Wilson will play more than Kendall, and I doubt he would catch more than 20-30 games.
So I am agreeing with you, chef!
