Now generally he gets a day off every time Wakefield pitches, and Beckett was pitching today, so it wasn't just a routine day off. I can't find anything. Anyone here about any injury problems with him?

Jason Varitek had X-rays on his right thumb after Saturday's game that came back negative.
Varitek was crossed up on a Daisuke Matsuzaka pitch and got hit on the thumb after the ball deflected off his left wrist. As a result, he's getting a rare day off in a non-Tim Wakefield start Sunday. He's expected back for Monday's game.
