Holliday sitting today

B. He needs a rest (surely not?)
C. He has a lousy record against Sheets

Anybody cast any light on this?

It must be A... cause even if he played in the All Star game it doesn't make sense to give this kind of star player a day off right after the break.

And same thing as per his track record against Sheets. I mean, even if Holliday was 0 for 40 against a pitcher, i would put him in my lineup every single night against this guy if i were a coach.

Anyone with an inside news on why he's ledt off the starting lineup tonight?

I've looked at everything I can find and can't find an explanation. He's 2/6 against Sheets. He has been in a bit of a funk lately (2/19 over the last 4 games + 4 k's last night) so maybe it's an extra day off given that he travelled for the all-star game. There is a fourth possibility: personal issues. Otherwise I'm guessing a minor injury.

I saw him in the dugout. Didn't really listen to the announcers, so I don't know why he's out!!

All-Star left fielder Matt Holliday was not in the lineup on Saturday, even though Brewers starter Ben Sheets had given up a .291 average against right-handed batters. Hurdle said he thought Holliday, who homered but struck out four times Friday night, could use a break after the excitement of All-Star week.
