TRADE JOHAN FOR PROSPECTS?

Postby Shaddupu » Sat Jul 14, 2007 6:52 am

I'm considering trading Johan Santana for several prospects. 12 team 5x5 H2H keeper league w/ minor league rosters. I'm not contending this year and may not contend next year so I'm looking at 09. I would trade Johan Santana for Justin Upton, Clayton Kershaw and Chad Billingsley. What are your opinions on this? Should I do it? Do you think it's enough for Santana? Thanks in advance for you help.

If there's truly no alternative, that is a respectable amount of value for Johan. Do it if you're hopeless this year and next.

I wouldn't do it I would never trade Johan no matter what the offer was unless it was something insane like 5 guys for 1 and all major leauge players or something. Not for prospects never. :-t

I'd want nearly all bats in return for Johan. They're a little less combustible than arms. I would also want 4 players. 3 bats, 1 arm. Something like an Upton (top-tier) / Braun (top-tier) / Votto (mid-tier) / Bills (live/projectable arm). That still may be a little light.

Yeah you are definitely undervaluing Johan here. I like all 3 of those guys but I would need at least one more of that quality player in order to trade for the best pitcher in baseball. Also I think it would be better for you to get a major league youngster like Braun/Pence/Gordon involved because you never know with prospects.

It would have to be Butler, Braun, Upton, and Kershaw for me to consider.

If you have TONS of keepers (like 20) it might be something to consider, anything less then 10 and you are really hurting yourself by giving keeper spots to players without a good record. Keep Johan.

Not in a million years. You could get quite a bit more for Johan than that. Fish. See what bites.

thats actually a decent deal for johan(if your looking for a prospect deal). im not sure why the one guy dont like billingsley. he is going to be a hoss. big, bulldog style. and shouldnt have to many arm problems. and upton is a generation player. absolutely the best talent in the minors. and will most likely be a full time centerfielder for ariznona by mid season next year. kershaw is probably gonna be here by 09. but could get a cup of coffee in late 08. he possibly has more upside than billingsly. but he is still raw. but is mowing down the compitition now. and he could move fast. but you never know.

i would try and pry another top talent off of him. like someone said, try gordon or maybe longoria, butler. you most likely wont be able to get braun along with those 3. braun has arrived and in big fashion
