Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - The Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday signed veteran utility man Mark McLemore to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
McLemore spent the last four seasons with the Seattle Mariners and will make a return to Baltimore where he played three seasons. He batted .233 with two homers and 37 RBI for Seattle last season.
The 39-year-old outfielder/infielder is a career .259 hitter and will join a revamped club that includes shortstop Miguel Tejada, catcher Javy Lopez and first baseman Rafael Palmeiro.
McLemore broke into the league with the California Angels in 1986 and spent time with the Cleveland Indians and Houston Astros before joining the Orioles in 1992. He posted career highs with 148 games played and 72 RBI with the Orioles in 1993.
He then left Baltimore for the Texas Rangers in 1995 and joined the Mariners five seasons later.
