Yanks add Lamb into mix at third base

Postby WebHamster » Fri Feb 06, 2004 5:06 am

New York, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Yankees acquired third baseman Mike Lamb from the Texas Rangers on Wednesday in exchange for minor league pitcher Jose Garcia.

The deal is pending a roster move by the Yankees to open up a spot on the 40- man roster.

With the possibility of third baseman Aaron Boone missing the entire season due to a knee injury, Lamb will be given a shot to compete for the starting job with Miguel Cairo, Enrique Wilson, Tyler Houston and Erick Almonte.

The 28-year-old Lamb hit .132 in only 38 at-bats last season for the Rangers while playing the infield and the outfield.

However, in the 2002 campaign, Lamb hit .283 with nine homers and 33 RBI in 115 games with the Rangers.

Garcia was 10-8 with a 2.52 ERA in 25 Single-A starts in 2003.

Does anyone have a scouting report on Garcia?

Also, how is Lamb doing so far? I haven't been checking in to the Empire's database lately.

This is why people got annoyed by the Hamster, I think. Too many times telling us about Mike Lamb. Bah.
