That fantasy issue today just plain sucked. Unbelievably bad. I kid you not, I wrote and complained to Paul White and basically got a condescending letter back.
Thats it - I'm cancelling my subscription tomorrow. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I might get to replace them. At thisrate Sports Illustrated For Kids would be better.
Has anyone ever tried Baseball Prospectus Premium content?
I'm thinking about getting it. It must be worlds better than Weekly.

I haven't read the new issue, but I tend to agree.
The last year they have slowly turned a good thing into an also ran piece of garbage. The merge with Football was a horrible idea. If they don't make some changes quick, they are gonna lose a ton of readers. IMO.
They are trying to ruin a good thing.

After so many favorable posts here, I called to subscribe at least 3 weeks ago. They said I could expect to have my first issue in about a week. I've not heard anything more from them. Maybe if I'm lucky they forgot to process my subscription!

I first subscribed in March 2001. It was great! 50-60 pages on nothing but baseball every Thursday. Heaven.
The change to football was total crap. And they did it with no warning whatsoever. One week they just editorialized that next week issue would be the first "Sports Weekly". It has slowly gone to hell. I wrote Paul White at the time and he said he didnt like it either but asked me to give it a shot. Well today I wrote him and here's what he wrote back (the jerk). So you know I complimented him on being a good writer (which he isnt but I knew I'd get a reply) and I ripped the fantasy issue.
here's what the Paul White wrote
First of all, the big Fantasy issue you're used to always shows up in March (and this one always shows up in February). That's the way it has been for several years. Come March, you'll get the usual dozens of pages on the fantasy year that you've been getting every March since the beginning.

then why the hell did they pump this issue as "fantasy preview"
it licks monkey butt.....I've been an on and off subscriber and will usually pick it up on the stand in baseball season....but they suck now....read the online and look somewhere else
maybe someone can revive "The National"
YAHOO! RULES!!!!!

I know! I dont remember ever getting a fantasy preview in February before. The guy's response was terrible. I'll be writing a letter of complaint to USA Today tomorrow!
Yeah they suck. And it's too bad - it used to be very good. Their content is nothing special anymore. I'll lay you money that Prospectus premium is 10x as good. Same price too.

i saw the other thread on this yesterday, but it didnt dawn on me until i picked it up today, that the problem is exactly what moose described.
this isnt the huge fantasy issue we're used to seeing in mid-march.
this is the is a PREVIEW that they hyped up to get fantasy fans to buy it and remember to subscribe or keep coming back through the season.
genius marketing move really.
and comparing a 1.50 newspaper to a 20.00+ book is kinda unfair.

I'm not comparing Weekly to the book. I'm saying I'd bet Baseball Prospectus'
Premium content is much better than Weekly.
Fact is, the mag has gone straight to crap since they added football. I'm all done with them starting today. They suck.
