Erik Bedard: One of the best starts of the year??

Postby wingman3110 » Sat Jul 07, 2007 11:28 pm

Ok besides Verlander's and Buherle's no hitters this year, was Bedard's outing tonite one of the best of the '07 season??

Bedard's line: 9 innings, 2 hits, 15 K's, no runs, no BB

In my h2h points league, I had to look twice at his final points line - 47 points - I don't think I have seen a point total that high for just one start this year......glad I wasn't facing him this week :-°

In terms of fantasy baseball, I'll take Bedard's outing over the two no-hitters.

Amazing start, Bedard is very underrated. Someone dropped him after his first couple starts and I picked him up.

Agreed. Bedard continues to be one of the most underrated players in all of fantasy baseball... except to those who own him in the leagues I'm in who won't give him up. }:-) :-[

Bedard could easily win the AL Cy Young this year and I say that as an owner of Santana and Haren.

[Erik] Bedard pitched the finest game of his career, walking none, striking out a career-high 15 and hurling a two-hit shutout over Texas in a 3-0 victory before 32,849 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Bedard faced the minimum 27 batters in the masterpiece. His 15 strikeouts tied the Orioles’ club record, Mike Mussina accomplished the feat twice in 2000.
...
Rangers starter Brandon McCarthy (4-6) made one of his best starts of the season, only to be eclipsed by Bedard’s brilliance. McCarthy held the Orioles to two runs (one earned) on four hits in six innings…

I would say it's the best. He actually had a better WHIP than Verlander (not sure about Buehrle). And his 15 K's I'm sure is more than either of the no-hitters.

Also, a cool thing about this was that he actually only faced 27 guys. Both times someone reached base, there was a double play later that inning.
