Jul 6 Saltalamacchia was forced to leave Friday's game in San Diego after a foul tip caught him in the shoulder and side of the head.
Recommendation: Making matters worse is that Brian McCann is banged-up as well, even though McCann did gut out a sore right knee to take over for Saltalamacchia behind the dish. Saltalamacchia stood to get some additional at-bats in the short-term, but that may be in jeopardy now. We can't really speculate yet whether Saltalamacchia has a head injury or just took a hard shot and might be back in short time.
According to AJC, Salty got hit in the temple, when he attempted to get up, he got dizzy. He thought better if he stayed down. They did a MRI on him, everything came back negative. He should be ready to go today since there is a lefty going on the mound for the Padres.
It apparently got him on the temple after hitting him in the temple. It rocked him good. Sure was scary.
Diaz and Escobar are the back up emergency catchers if either McCann or Salty get injured or tossed in the game.
As for McCann, he didn't let anyone know about the pain in the right knee, he thought he could play through it. Guess not. He had a MRI done and nothing is wrong and will be playing today and as well as Tuesday in the All Star Game. Love these guys toughness.
Salty wants back in there today, McCann tried to tough it out but if you are in pain especially with the knees, sit out a couple of games to rest. Rather have you healthy than on the DL.
Life is like riding an elevator. It has a lot of ups and downs and someone is always pushing your buttons.
