What happened to Erickson? I thought he could play an important role in that pitching staff but see he is not even on the team.

There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.

Erickson is there, where he's been quite often in the past. On the DL. The Mets are gonna re-evaluate his injury and see if they can get him to start after the All-Star break. Right now he's at AAA-Norfolk.

Found this on ESPN today:

Special delivery from Cuba

According to The New York Daily News, Cuban defector Alain Soler has agreed to a $3 million deal with the Mets. While team officials have never seen the 6-3, 230-pound Soler pitch, the belief is that the right-hander -- who throws in the low-90s and is purported to be 24 years old -- could be in the rotation after several minor-league starts. Soler's addition, and the likely promotion of Scott Erickson from Triple-A Norfolk after the All-Star break, could solidify a rotation that includes shaky back-end starters Matt Ginter and Jae Seo.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
