He's not better than those two. Sure, he's had better numbers this season in the ABs that he got, but the guy's 39 years old, he wasn't going to keep up the pace forever. Overbay is a consistent performer at 1B offensively, and much better defensively there than Matt. Reed Johnson was an OBP machine last year for this team, he's the guy that made this team go, and many blamed the Jays' lack of success this year on him being injured all year. Reed is also one of the better defensive LF's in the league. As of right now, Matt will get the 2-3 starts a week in either LF or at DH, and IMO, rightfully so. We're only a week or so away from the trade deadline though, he might go to a team that would start him, if the Jays choose the deal him (and I can't see why they wouldn't).
