Dotel trade rumors/Soria

Postby Slayer Rules » Fri Jul 06, 2007 2:59 pm

I'm a Dotel owner, and the numerous trade rumors surrounding him make me nervous. The lates rumor I've heard is that Cleveland is interested in him. I have a couple of questions:

1. Would Cleveland be looking at him to take Borowski's job or would he simply be installed as a setup man?
2. Should I be concerned enough to grab Soria? He's available right now. I really don't have the room to carry a back-up closer, but it would be worth it if Dotel loses his job via a trade...

I wouldn't grab soria. The KC situation isn't that black and white. I have heard a buzz that if Dotel gets traded Greinke may be the closer.

I dont have the roster space to take in the next in line but when Dotel gets traded I will try to be first on Soria/Greinke whomever is chosen though I'd say they should give it to Soria but who knows really.

I can't believe Greinke is even being considered for the job over Soria, who's just been lights out.

Dotel will be traded. If you've got room on your roster you could do a lot worse than Joakim.

I wouldn't be THAT surprised to see Greinke closing over Soria. A lot of teams like to have their best pitcher in the 8th inning or to get out of jams. The closer usually comes in less sticky situations and therefore has a little more leeway.

So would Dotel take the closer's job in Cleveland if he went there? Borowski has settled down a bit since his shaky start... I see no reason why they'd want to make any major changes like that at this point. Then again, Cleveland has Betancourt, so they don't really need a setup guy. Why else would they go after Dotel?

Cle needs bullpen help in general more than a closer upgrade because even though borowski has been scary hes getting it done for the most part

dotel would be there to set up and step in if needed

Backing up the previous post. The Tribe would get Dotel to backup Betancourt. Shapiro/Wedge have stated on numerous times the need to help Betancourt. Despite Borowski's horrific ERA/#'s, Wedge won't take Borowski out for fear of re-creating the bullpen mess that they had last year. Adding Dotel would give them flexibility for two bullpen spots

the tribe is more concerned with borowski's injury history than his production.
