Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
Thanks! My goal was to try and take advantage of this start, so the thrust of this piece (buying Carpenter as low as posible) might be moot, but you buying him should still stand. He's likely to be snagged with Guthrie, not with Fontenot, but I wanted to use two players who were similar in terms of pedigree and season. Both have never done this before and both are older first round picks. Right now I definitely think you could get Carpenter for Guthrie, but likely not Fontenot unless he continues this for another week, in which case, Carpenter could have mowed down a bunch of unfortunate 20-year-olds. St. Louis certainly is not out of the race, is getting better, and news that Carp is right around the corner is all THE DEFENDING WS CHAMPS might need to kick it into high gear. Getting your ace back can have a wondrous domino effect.
8 IP, 2 runs, 6 hits, 6 K's, W. You could be seeing that every five days if you act now!
Yeah, the spin I wanted to take was to try and give ideas of more lower offers that might get accepted. Bu the thrust of the article is that now is the time to acquire Carpenter if you want his services, regardless of what you are prepared to offer. Players' values tend to rise upon word of them returning soon, so this one start is a great opportunity to attempt to cast that knowledge aside and really work the angle that things are not going well. Not every league is full of the greatest owners, so these things do work. In public single year leagues, I'm fairly confident that these two players are great attempts to nab Carp.
just dealt phillips and hart for bay/chipper/carp.....based on the article. i was reading it thinking, hmm, maybe the guy in my league is sour on carp. Turns out he was . Thanks very much.
I had grabbed Carpenter 2 weeks ago from the waiver wire on an impulse, and after reading this, I actually now have the facts to support that hunch. Your analysis gives me further food for thought too when comparing Carpenter's potential once he returns to say, Pedro Martinez's whom I also stashed.
