Carlos Pena, 1B, Detroit: After batting .248-18-50 last year with the Tigers, Pena ranked among the top 10 hitters in the Dominican League by posting a .291 average. The improved batting average is a positive sign for Detroit, which has had concerns about his low average. If he can make some of the adjustments he showed in the Dominican, Pena could live up to his recent high billing.

I would love to see him hit above .275. That would be a fantastic sign.

no, you're right. He isnt worth anything but a very late rd flier if at all. But do keep an eye on him.

they're even the exact same height/weight ... and those are the numbers he'll post -5 or so HRs per year due to the Commerica Factor.

I'm wary when a team as shrewd as the A's gives up on a player so early in his career when he was heralded as a future MVP candidate. They couldn't wait to get rid of him. He must have a fatal flaw of some kind.

As a lifelong Tiger fan, I don't ever remeber looking forward to a season more than this. They won't win anything, of course, but they have avery interesting team.

I watched Pena since he started here in Texas. He was unimpressive then, and hasn't done anything to change it since. I'd need to see some production before picking him up.
