Kala Kaaihue

Postby wake » Fri Jul 06, 2007 4:32 am

Kala Kaaihue has been having a very good year in A+ in a park heavily favored towards pitchers (Myrtle Beach). He has a .291/.410/.578 line with 19 HR in 258 AB. Last year he had 28 HR between A and A+ in 416 AB. What kind of potential do you think he has compared to some of the other top 1B prospects?

I'm glad someone else knows about him. I think he is a legit 35+ HR guy. My only problem with him is his massive amount of Ks. If he can keep those down, I think he will be a great prospect. He does have an excellent eye though.

Watch out for newly drafted Freddy Freeman as the Braves future 1B in a few years.

Just a heads up to anyone running out to grab this guy in Dynasty leagues the Royals have a Kila Kaaihue at 1B in AA. His numbers aren't as good. I would assume they're brothers. Just make sure you get the right one.

Good point ;-D They're both from Hawaii, and Kila is exactly one year older. I found a column written about them when I was doing the "Your Favorite Team's 2010 Starting Lineup" and writing about him on Sickels. I'll try to find the post.

EDIT: I found it!

I also may be going to see him again pretty soon up in Myrtle Beach.

Kala Ka'aihue News: ;-D

"1B Kala Ka'aihue was named the league's Topps Player of the Month for June after the Hawaii native hit .378 with a circuit-best nine home runs and 70 total bases during the period. He also walked 20 times and raised his batting average from .236 at the beginning of the month to .293. The calendar change did little to slow KK down, with the first baseman hitting his league-best 18th home run on July 3 and his 19th big fly a day later."
