Injuries: Help or Hurt the player?

In some cases it seems as though players come off injuries and do a lot better than what they have been doing, but in other cases they just suck. I wonder if some players just say they are "hurt" to get out of a slump or so they don't they have play. Well my question is do you guys think injuries help or hurt players?

More likely, I think a lot of players try and play through minor injuries, which leads to the slumps they experience right before going on the DL. They try and play through, realize they can't, and that leads to the trip to the DL.

I think by definition injuries hurt them. But I could be wrong.
