The Cubs will not win the next 5 of 7 world series. They will infact sweep for the next 20 seasons minus the strike year of 2011. Cub will never lose again and the MLB will change its name to Major Leauge Baseball that the Cubs own and win every game in, or the MLBTTCOAWEGI for those who like stuff like that.

I love Cubs and Red Sox fans. A century of losing cannot beat the optimism out of them.

You've got to read "The Fadeaway" a short story by W.P. Kinsella in his book "The Dixon Cornbelt League". In the story dead Chicgoans plead with God to let the Cubs win the WS. God finally relents but says that if the Cubs win the WS the world will end. The power to decide whether the Cubs win and the world ends (or the Cubs losing and the world continuing) is given to the Cubs manager who has a tough time deciding what is more important. Good stuff, I highly recommend it.

Every couple of years there is some team that looks like they will wqin everything for ten years, and it never happens. Even the Braves of the early 90s--who many people claimed would win the World Series every year foever, only won once. They are actually an instructive example--a great farm system, deep pockets, and remarkable luck avoiding injuries to their core players, and they still only won once.

Cubs fans--don't act like Boston fans, and wait until you at least win one title before you talk up how great your team is.

The Cubs made a huge mistake by not signing Rodriguez or Javy Lopez. I don't care if they would have overpaid for either. Michale barrett stinks.

Getting Lee was the next best thing to Richie Sexson. In Chicago, Lee will hit 5-7 more HR and perhaps hit with more average.

They are banking on patterson be ready to resume playing in center. if he is not healthy Tom Goodwin is a poor excuse for a replacement.

I am concerned about Alou. It is forseeeable that he will either break down or slip. he is not that much of a force anymore but with the addition of Lee maybe he won't bat clean-up so his demise will not be that critical.

Getting Maddux would be huge, not that Maddux can win 20 games. If he could win 16 with a modest ERA it would make thier rotation one of the better ones in the NL ( tough to surpass Houston)

Sosa should be fairly productive again (40HR 100 RBI) but the clock is ticking for him too. I'd say he has 2 good years left.

sosa is on the decline and will not demand that much in the future and will eventually retire

patterson has not had a great year yet so i dont know how you can say he will make a lot

Lee will be paid a lot, but no big deal as he is a good bat and makes the team better defensively

wood, still has never won 15 so he doesnt deserve a huge contract yet, a big one but nothing to fret about

when does prior become eleigible for free agency, not for a while

zambrano, he will be a padilla, wolf type, never will make that much

Wood is already close to 10 ..and wants more..Rightly so

Prior has an out clause after this season, we discussed it here a few months back

Sosa gets 18 mill for the next two, and will probably get 10-12 mill per after that.

Lee is a free agent,
Ramirez is a free agent
Wood is a free agent
Gonzalez is a free agent
Clement is a free agent

Zambrano and Patterson will both get paid properly. If not for '05 then for '06, or they will be playing in STL .. you can bank on that ..

Thats alot of money that the Tribune will be dealing out ... IMO.

Great team. but I can't see it staying together for that long ...
