Reds Fire Narron

Postby Havok1517 » Sun Jul 01, 2007 9:57 pm

According to the Cincinnati Post, the Reds have fired manager Jerry Narron.

Former Pirates interim manager Pete Mackanin is expected to be named his interim replacement. It really was past time for Narron to go. The players and media seemed to like him, but his bullpen management was a real problem and he wasn't always good about putting his best lineup on the field. The move would seem to come too late to do much good for 2007, but the Reds still needed to move on.

Yeah, stupid movs like why Harang was pitching in the 8th with a 16-1 lead still baffle me. I hope this doesn't effect Hamitlon too much since he and Narron are so close.

thank goodness. hopefully, this is a portent of what's to come.

all power hitters need to be jettisoned for pitching and defense. given gabp's dimensions and the humidity in cincinnati, a 330-foot shot typically does about the same thing as a 430-foot shot. i'm finally on the edge of my seat.

yeah, yes...

Narron is a super nice guy, and I imagine some team will pick him up as a bench coach over the winter.

I guess I just don't understand. Why is he getting the blame? What do you expect when you have a pitching staff (outside of Harang) that is a pile of doo-doo? I mean Bobby Cox is the only manager in the league that would have an outside chance of competing with a roster like the Reds have. If the players liked/respected Narron, then why not give him more of a chance?

The Reds are destined to continue failing until they get more talent. A new manager will do nothing.

I tend to disagree. Even a casual fan can identify the mass mismanagement of the bullpen this season. He really makes you scratch your head almost every single night. Using rookies 5 days in a row and stubbornly putting Todd Coffey in situations in which he's destined to fail. Not to mention refusing to use Burton for much of the season, even in blowouts, and then when the bullpen is worn he ends up having to throw him in a pressure situation.

This three catcher thing has gotten rediculous. Moeller has no place on an MLB roster once so ever.

The Reds have one of the best offenses in the league (they lead MLB in HR's) and have gotten adequate starting pitching much of the time, epecially early on from the 1-4 starters. Still, Jerry's has found a way to lose almost every night.
