Blue Jays placed RHP A.J. Burnett on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 29. Could the Blue Jays handle injured pitchers any worse? Burnett threw 130 pitches, went on the DL with a sore shoulder after his next start, was rushed back after missing just two turns and is now right back out again. He might have to be written off for the rest of the year at some point.
I just sent him packing too. Already have Tex and Pedro filling up my DL, with Upton and Myers rotting away on my bench. I just can't see A.J. finishing out the season at this point.
If you're in the same boat as me and don't have room for him on your DL, I think it's time to let him go. I waited out his last DL stint (played with 17 healthy guys out of 21) because I wanted to have the best team possible going into the playoffs, but this too much. I just can't picture Burnett staying healthy from this point forward.
Of the guys you mentioned, I like Francis--but the bottom line is that a non-injured pitcher has got to be more useful now, right?

I am in the same boat as you...and as the saying goes, I think we're both stuck up creek without a paddle. My league only has one DL and five bench spots...and I currently have Upton, Teixeira, Piazza, Duchscherer, and Burnett ALL on the DL.

I wouldn't completely write off Burnett yet. He didn't look all that bad in his last start, and he was rushed back. This isn't that bad of a time to go on the DL with the All-Star Break coming up. He said he and his shoulder felt fine after his last start, so it might be the Blue Jays being cautious and not wanting further damage done. I believe rest should help him get back to being good.
Talk about your overreactions! What, he went on the 15 day DL, and missed one start last time, and now they are putting him on the DL for another 15 days. The way people are talking on this thread, you'd think he had been on the DL most of the season! This guy is a strikeout machine. Anyone, especially someone who is talking about saving someone for the playoffs at this point in the season, should be able to afford to miss one or two more starts from him. We're not talking about a serious injury here (as far as we know anyway). Even if you don't have the DL spot, I'd hold onto him, unless we find out it is more serious than they are making out... unless you also don't have the bench spots, of course.
