Update on the A's Closer Situation: Justin Duchscherer

It looks like "the Duke" is worth stashing on your DL. Below is a quote from Rotowire.com via Yahoo!

Duchscherer (hip) is expected to regain the closer's role once he's activated from the DL in the coming weeks, the A's official site reports.

The "saga" continues. If this is true, I got extremely lucky in my 13-team 5x5 ROTO league. I just packaged Embree with a starter for a closer upgrade (Hoffman). Now, I might get the closer back (since the Duke is on my DL). Sometimes, it is better to be lucky than skilled as a Fantasy GM. ;-) We'll see what happens!

The deal was Embree and Carmona for Hoffman. The other manager was way behind on innings and needed a starter. I am up on innings and plan on using four plus a deep pen the rest of the way. I got very lucky on the timing of the deal (deal was finalized the day Embree had a bad outing followed by Carmona). This was certainly a "sell high" deal for an established closer (was very fortunate on the timing).

wow, a steal

Embree has bad the past week, he was alright for a while and Carmona is also coming back to earth now

Hoffman will be a stud especially in the 2nd half with the Pads in the race for the division title

why does it seem like all trades are completely lopsided? there must be some bad fantasy owners out there.

FYI

The Douche has had his next outing delayed (2nd time)

and per him his hip has been "acting up a little"

I'm not sure it's "news" that Dusch is expected to get back the closer's job on his return. Embree was always a fill-in option while Dusch and Street are out. The real issue is how long Dusch and Street will be out. Street is currently scheduled to be back by the end of July and who knows about Dusch. In the meantime, Embree will continue to get the ball in the 9th. Personally, I think Dusch and Street are not gonna be back any time soon and Embree's real "competition" for the A's closer role right now is with Santiago Casilla.
