David Ortiz - when are u going to start hittin more homeruns

I saw this same thread about Manny and had to vent about Big Papi as well. Since when is he Derek Jeter and not the power freak we all rely on? I can't completely bash him cause he's still hitting for average, but where are the power numbers?

I've been frustrated as well. For years I've wanted David Ortiz and this year I finally get him in drafts for both of my leagues, thinking he's money in the bank for 40-45 home runs. After a great start in April with his customary power (7 HR) he went on to have only 2 in May and 4 so far this month.

I love the batting average and everything too, but come on man where is the power? I believe Josh Hamilton and Chris Duncan are ahead of or almost tied with him in homeruns for cryin' out loud.

This is total speculation on my part, earlier in the season his hamstring was bothering him...being as that might be something that could linger - perhaps that's holding him back from getting a powerful swing.

With that said, be thankful he's still hitting the ball at a 300+ clip and giving some other stats..
To me, from a non-fantasy perspective it shows why he's such a valuable player as he can hit more then just the long ball...even if in fantasy that's what we've come to expect.

I'm still hoping for a second half push and am expecting him to finish between 30-40HRs (and with a healthy hammy perhaps his usual, yet irregular triple).

I think Big Papi is pressing right now. Manny Ramirez hasn't been his usual self so far this season, and it looks like Ortiz is trying to compensate. The power numbers should come.

The funny things about Ortiz is his doubles. Last year in 151 games he had 29. This year through 74 he has 27. In 05 he had 40 in a 159 games. He obviously still driving the ball, but this year its more gap power. It seems he's hitting more line drives than flyballs, so it my just be a slight variation in his swing.

I really think it's his hammys. Hopefully he'll try not to participate in the AS game and rest up a little. I think he'll be back on in the second half.

Today's news has him admitting to soreness in his right quad. Says he will keep playing

It's great that he's playing through it and everything but it sounds like it's gonna be sore all year, so he'll probably be lucky to reach 30 home runs. I'm pretty close to dealing him for someone who is able to hit 'em out of the park.
