I'm not sure why Fuentes owners seem "not worried" that their man has been officially removed from the closer's role. I would be very worried. Both Corpas and Affeldt are solid options in the 9th. If either of them get the opportunity and run with it, Fuentes might not see another save opp again (at least for Colorado), no matter what the manager now says.
I am the Master. Don't question the Master. Just do what he says and be proud.
I carry 4 or 5 closers on all my teams, so I dumped him for Corpas, Dotel, Guardado, or Embree. Will dump Corpas Guardado, and Embree when the Duke comes off the DL.
The continued struggles of Fuentes are the big story among the save guys, with message boards lighting up about who the replacement will be. Manny Corpas has done a nice job setting Fuentes up, with a 2.70 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 16 of the team's 32 holds. You know what wouldn't surprise me? Yep, there's that name again, Jorge Julio. Some closers just cannot be buried for good. Julio has put up some nasty numbers in the past for certain teams, and his season numbers this year stink, but as a member of the Rockies, he has a 1.76 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 15 1/3 innings. He has experience, recent experience in that division closing. I know it sounds odd and probably unfair, but if Fuentes doesn't regain the role, I think Julio gets the saves.
Now there's a thought that will give you nightmares; Julio closing again, but it wouldn't shock me either. Hide your kids, the end is near.
