Need help with how to deal with possible collusion

Postby JRAMI » Sat Jun 30, 2007 7:44 pm

I have a father and son in my league, both are trading places in last. They each have their own team and they only do trades with each other, here are the trades that have taken place.

Trade #1
J Garland (son)
for
F Thomas (father)

Trade #2

Berkman (son)
Furcal
Atkins
Rolen
Matsuzaka

for

Arod (father)
Jeter
Giambi
Gorzelanny

Trade # 3

B Bonds (son)
Hardy
Giambi

for

Griffey (father)
Chin Ming Wang
Boof Bonswer

Trade #4

Nady (son)
Colon

for

Matsuzaka (father)
Giambi

and this is it, so as you can see, Giambi keeps getting tossed back and forth. A couple people in my league seem a little disturbed by this but Im not sure how to handle this ,if at all. I mean the trades arent unfair but they do seem to get players over on one team

None of the trades are that bad as you said. I would ask for their reasoning for swapping Giambi back and forth, it does look a little fishy. But, I don't think there is much you can do about it right now.

I didnt say the trades are bad, its the fact that they keep swapping players over to each others teams. Giambi been trades 3 times and Matsuzaka has been twice

I wouldn't want that situation in my league. They could be doing only totally legitimate deals and playing perfectly fairly, or the dad could pick a point to give up on the season and finally give a player that his son really needs (Matsuzaka) for something stupid (Colon/Nady) and then artfully bow out. Or they could even abuse the trust that's been building and the father could start selling all sorts of players to his son. If they're not even offering or listening to trades from anyone else, I see it as a problem. They might not be cheating right now, but I still wouldn't be totally comfortable with that situation in my league.

This isn't necessarily the behind closed doors sinister sort of collusion, but in my estimation there's a huge risk of continued passive, apathetic collusion.

I will not veto a trade where two adequately knowledgeable managers are making a sincere effort to improve their own teams, but in this situation that criteria is hard to meet because it's hard to be sure of.

they have done trades with other teams, not as significant ,but they have done 4 trades with other teams as well. The trades they do with each other standout because its the same players they keep swapping

I meant I was agreeing with you, I guess I should've used a comma to make that more clear

now what?

July 12th, the father does this trade to help his team

he trades
Michael Barrett (SD - C)
Manny Ramírez (Bos - OF)
Josh Beckett (Bos - SP)

and gets
Russell Martin (LAD - C)
Mark Teixeira (Tex - 1B)

July 16th he does this trade with his son

he gets
Jason Varitek (Bos - C)
Richie Sexson (Sea - 1B)
Raúl Ibañez (Sea - OF)
Tom Gorzelanny (Pit - SP)

and trdes these 2 to his son
Russell Martin (LAD - C)
Mark Teixeira (Tex - 1B)

its pretty clear he is loading up his sons team. How do we handle this? Help!!

The initial trade here isn't so bad, but the trade where he gives Martin and Teix back is clear collusion in my mind. Veto it and give him some harsh words. This is exactly the scenario I foresaw in my previous post.

This is where their evil plans have become fairly obvious in my mind. They probably don't even know they're doing anything wrong, but they are.

I agree with the previous post. In principal, if teams want to trade players "back and forth", that is OK with me (as long as they are fair). However, the last Martin/Tex deal SHOULD be vetoed (possible collusion). This seems like an obvious attempt to help the son's team which should be blocked.
