Phil Hughes late July return

Postby sandman042 » Sat Jun 30, 2007 10:46 am

according to rotoworld

Phil Hughes (hamstring, sprained ankle) threw a 35-pitch bullpen session on Friday.

Hughes remains on pace for a late July return from the disabled list.

i just checked and hes on my free agents. do u think when he returns that he will be in rotationn w/ mussina, pettite, clemens, wang, and igawa.

Good point. I don't know right now. I have him stashed on the DL in my keeper league but will he have an effect on the stretch run? The Yanks look like ass and may not be in contention come then so it couldn't hurt to have him finish at AAA and then get called up in Sept. but if they are in contention for the wild card I could see Igawa going to the pen. This is the first I'm hearing of a late July return (kept hearing mid-Aug) so let's hope he comes back into the rotation. If he is a FA watch his progress but there might be a better immediate option (Garza, Rogers, etc)

My guess is if the Yankees have a chance, they will trade for someone like Mark Burlehe to take over Iwaga's SP spot, and move him to the pen. Hughes will only get a shot if somone else goes down. Given the age of the rest of the SP, that is a distinct possibility.

Are you guys joking??? Hughes will eb starting once he comes back in July. Igawa was one of the worst signings in all sports this past year and is terrible. They dont have the pieces to trade for a Buehrle so expect Igawa to be gone and for Hughes to move back into the rotation.

He should be starting when he returns. Igawa stinks. I wonder whether the grade three strain will have any long-term residual effect (ie - more likely to be injured).

Is it me or is Matt Garza VERY overrated? The hype around him really is not merited. Lincecum and Gallardo were just FILTHY in AAA (Lincecum was borderline untouchable) and that just isn't the case with Garza. I've read at least a half dozen stories now that say he just tries to throw 94-96 MPH fastballs by people constantly. You can't really get big league hitters out that way. In any case, enough of that. I can't see how Igawa would stay in the rotation if they are a couple games out of the wild-card. That being said, it's going to be an uphill battle just to contend for the wild-card. The division is pretty much over. On the other hand...maybe Roger Clemens doesn't give up another ER from now until October, starts every other game, and Boston is overwhelmed by an outbreak of the Bubonic Plague. It could totally happen bros...

Hughes will start. He'll be the fifth starter. This stuff about trading for Buehrle is nonsense. When he's healthy again, he'll start.
