New sigs... ortiz/santana/wade and more

ive been making sigs for about a week. what do you think?

Good for only making them for a week. First off all of you render (picture) does not have to fit into the sig. Its ok if like the top of their head or their bat or arm is not in the sig. Also A lot of your sigs have a render that blends in with the background I like my player to stand out. It looks like in some of your sigs you put a bucket fill over the images. I would either turn the opacity down a bit more or put your image in front of the bucket fill. Now I would try to experimant different background ideas. For instance you can take a picture and gaussian blur it or take jerseys and motion blur them. Also like my mauer sig you can make your render larger and put the small version in it. But all in all you should be good just practice practice practice and before you know it you will be a great artist. Good Luck

alright thanks. yea for the backroudds ive been doing alot of motion blurring even just blurring together a player as you see in the meariweather sig. as for putting a larger render in then the smaller one (as you mentioned in your mauer sig), would my wade sig kind of be like that? Also the lighting feature i have put to good use as you see, but ill work on making the main image stand out more, and overall ill just practice everyday. thanks for the help

Two things. I hate seeing things flipped if you can still read their team or number. With the Gerald Green sig, perhaps extract the Celtics and number pre-flip, then paste it over the flipped body. If that doesn't work, maybe you can enlarge him so the bottom of the jersey is cut off. My other suggestion would be to use unsharpen mask (if you're using photoshop) to bring out the dominant layer. The players seem a bit soft. Maybe it is the resolution of the image, but if not, give sharpening a try.

I really think the backgrounds are great. All except the Green sig really jumps out at you. They are easily your strength. Great job on this first batch.

most of what i was going to say has already been said, but you need to add some effects to your text so it doesnt look like you just typed it out and slapped it on.

what type of affects would you say. ive only been using GIMP for a week as said above so any cool affects/features that would be good to know would be appreciated

a simple drop shadow is always very very easy. generally, if i have my text anywhere other than the bottom, its good to have something underneath it. either some lines, smaller text etc.. just so it doesnt look like its just floating around out there. text is one of the hardest parts of a sig. dafont.com has thousands of fonts you can easily DL. check some of them out and find yourself some creative fonts as well. hope i can help.
