Now what about Fontenot?

Postby sportsnut307 » Tue Jun 26, 2007 3:43 am

The guy has been doing it consistantly for a good couple of weeks now and he looks to have the 2B job tied down. He went 5 for 5 tonight...but is this all just some big fluke. His minor league numbers really aren't that good at all. Why was this guy even called up in the first place?

He was hitting .340 with 6 HR in 54 games in the minors before getting called up. And he hit almost .300 at AAA last year.

Just saw that he played a game at SS. Is there any chance that this becomes a more common spot for him? I'd pick him up in a second if he had SS eligibility on top of 2B.

They have Theriot and Izturis to play SS, so I doubt he gets too many looks there. Derosa and Fontenot were both coming off good nights, so they probably wanted to keep their bats in the lineup. It was a right handed pitcher, so Floyd was definitely going to play in RF, so that left 2B and SS for Derosa and Fontenot. I think it will take a while to get to 5 games started (if he ever does), assuming that is what you need for him to qualify at SS.
Even though Derosa was coming off a good night, I don't like that they sat Theriot the day after he broke his 0-15 skid.
