Anyone Know Anything About Manny Para??

Postby cooncoon69 » Mon Jun 25, 2007 11:23 pm

I just read about this guy on rotoworld, and it seems like he could be the next big prospect.
"In just his second start since his promotion, Manny Parra pitched a perfect game and struck out 11 for Triple-A Nashville on Monday.
Parra beat the Astros' affiliate, just like Milwaukee beat Houston tonight. The 24-year-old left-hander is back looking like a very legitimate prospect this year after battling shoulder problems the previous three seasons. The Brewers might want to take a look at him as a reliever during the second half. Jun. 25 - 11:13 pm et"

I have never heard of Parra, so was this just luck or is he actually good, and if he is this good what is his ETA??

Thanks

Parra was the Brewers top pitching prospect until he began going through a series of ailments. Looks like he's back now. The potential is there for him to be very good.

I don't know about "the next big prospect" but he could be solid. Not someone I'm going to be grabbing right away if he makes it up to the majors this year. One of the many to keep any eye on though for sure!

John Sickles gave him a C+ in his book...says he was a hot prospect a few years ago but had arm trouble (torn labrum-surgery)..all his pitches are above average and he could surprise....health is a big concern here.

He was in their rotation last year until he went down with injury. I wouldn't be surprised if he cracks the rotation again this year, and he's a good source for some cheap k's.

I've been tracking Parra myself, since he seems like a really nice sleeper this year. He's fighting for a spot in the rotation, but is against the likes of Capuano for the job. However, he's got like a 0.64 ERA and more than a K per inning in spring so far. Capuano, well, he hasn't fared as well. He's got a good chance to make the staff at the start of the season.

From what you guys are saying, scouts aren't too up on the guy. The thing is, he was good last year:

3.76 ERA (only 26 innings), but 26 K's.

... and he's burning it up in spring. I got a feeling that he'll be very decent, and will make the bacon in a lot of peoples' rotations this year. Even if he doesn't make the rotation, there's some injury questions with Milwaukee's team, and the fact that Capuano or Bush could just be plain ineffective. Signs point to him producing for a decent amount of time this year, if not the whole season.

I'm pretty sure he has a spot. Looks like Villanuave is on the outside looking in. Parra should be a decent option with upside but if he starts to struggle he will probably get yanked fairly quickly.
