In my auction keeper league they are trying to add rule called the "super-rookie rule"
This is how it works:
Certain rookies are deemed "super-rookies". These are labelled by the league and it is very subjective. A few that have been given this so far are, hunter pence, ryan braun, phil hughes, etc.
If you have asuper rookie that you didn't draft, but instead pickedup off waivers or free agents, you cannot keep him. He goes back into the draft pool.
Personally I think this rule is retarded. In my opinion I think it completely defeats one of the main purposes of a keeper league.
What do you all think. I would like to post some of the responses on my league mesage board.
This is a pretty stupid rule, and I don't think it should be put back into the draft. How does your league determine who is a super rookie?
What about JJ Hardy? Most likely he wasn't drafted, and even though he isn't a rookie nobody expected him to do what he has done. Do they have a "super non-drafted" rule?
By the way, I think this goes in the Commisioner's section.
Yeah, that is a stupid rule. They could all be on one team, and everybody doesn't like the owner or something like that. It is a keeper league, you can't determine who you can keep or not.
Not a good rule. As other mentioned, it's too subjective. Instead, here is what my auction keeper does for ALL free agents. Anyone that goes undrafted and is picked up from waivers gets a $20 price tag. We have 23 player rosters and a $260 draft budget (no in season budget). In order to keep a player the following season, we add $5 to the players previous dollar value. So in order to keep a rookie FA, you're looking at $25. I have somewhat protested that rule because very few FA breakouts ever become frozen. I personally would use a $10 or $15 blanket for all undrafted FA pickups so that an owner can at least be rewarded and hang on to a player for a year or two if they are really that good. Seems to work for us.
Sounds like a way for people who miss the boat on rookies to have a re-do.... "Well I didn't get Alex Gordon, so you shouldn't get to keep him"...pretty dirty.
somebody like a Corey Hart could easily gain this label despite everyone probably having 7 weeks to pick him up.
thanks guys, i appreciate the opinions......keep em coming, i want to compile a good list of objective opinions so i can convince them to change the rule.
My question is when was this rule decided. If it wasn't before the actual auction, you definitely can't do it this year. I've been in a keeper for 5 years, and the problem with trying to add a rule after the season is people fight for whats best for them (naturally) and not the league.
Really dumb rule. In fact why don't you just make a rule that if they drafted a guy who put up better than projected numbers, then you shouldn't be allowed to keep him.
That or no one can keep a player who hits over .300.
