It appears the Rays finally have given up on Elijah Dukes. The troubled outfielder is off the roster, though it is not yet clear if he has been designated for assignment or placed on the restricted list. Dustan Mohr has been brought up from Durham to take Dukes’ place. Dukes’ locker in the clubhouse has been cleaned out. We have been told the clubhouse will close at 4:00 for a team meeting.
Good riddance. Kid was clearly a 1st class a-hole. Strong statement by the Rays management.
edit to add rotoworld's take, which is in line with what Amazinz said below, might not be outright cut/release, but i'm personally hoping it is and he wasn't optioned or traded. let's see this clown live without that fat baseball paycheck.
rotoworld: Elijah Dukes has been dropped from Tampa Bay's roster, according to the St. Petersburg Times. No word yet on whether he's been optioned to Triple-A, designated for assignment or traded, but Dustan Mohr is coming up to replace him.

I'm pretty sure he's been optioned. I don't think anybody would just throw a young player away.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Elijah cannot be optioned as Durham will not take him. He is off of the Roster, which means he was traded or was released. It is very sad if he was released. I hope he gets a chance somewhere else, a change of scenary is what he needs.
You may be right. I don't have any inside info. It just seems strange that they would do that unless he did something egregious.

What do you mean Durham won't take him? It can't simply be that because if that was the case Durham would be in violation of their contract with Tampa Bay?

"very sad"? you have an ounce of pity for this tool? by all sports journalists' accounts he is one of the worst -- if not the single worst -- human in baseball. eff him. if what you mean is the waste of talent that would have been better used by a more decnt human being, sure, that's sad. but please don't shed a single tear for elijah dukes.
