The Trades that didn't Happen

Postby roninmedia » Fri Jun 22, 2007 2:52 pm

Every year, we hear about the trades that get done. But the more interesting things happen in the background; the negotiations to tweak a trade to work and the eventual dissolving of the relationship when things didn't work out. Sometimes it works in our favors and sometimes it doesn't.

A) What trade did you offer that the other owner that he rejected that now looking back, you breathe a sigh of relief? :-°

B) What trade did you get offered that you rejected that now looking back, you breathe a sigh of exasperation and ask why did I reject that? :*

A) I offered Alex Rios, Ichiro Suzuki, and Carlos Guillen for Matt Holliday and Rafael Furcal. :-°

B) I rejected Carlos Lee, Justin Verlander and Chien Ming Wang for Cole Hamels and Felix Hernadez. :*

earlier in the year in a dynasty league i could have had Matt Holliday or Hanley Ramierez for Carlos Beltran. Wish i would have done that. In this same league before the year started i traded Mike Stanton and JJ Hardy for Mike Napoli. wish i could redo this.

Sheff was hitting around .190 with 1 HR, and Pierre had 12 SB. It was just before Sheff went on his tear.

Last year at the end of April, I offered Ryan Howard for Morgan Ensberg. If you recall, Ensberg had been en fuego, hitting something like 8 home runs in the opening month. Howard was getting batted as low as 7th in the Phillies lineup. I felt like I needed an upgrade at 3rd base and offered it to a guy who I knew liked Howard. He turned it down (I guess because Ensberg was off to such a great start). Anyway, you know what happened....Howard became a 60-HR threat and the NL MVP. Ensberg ended up on the WW in that league (and I solved my 3rd base situation by grabbing Chipper right before he got hot). I still shudder when I think how close I was to making one of the worst possible trades. :-°

I tried to move Wright hard at the beginning of the season because I had too many studs under performing.

I offered Wright for:
Rollins/Butler
Teixeira
Hafner
Berkman
Carlos Lee

All were rejected. I am very happy.

I kept hovering over the accept button on a trade that would send me Kinsler for Sheffield at the end of April.

I'm glad I ended up hitting the reject button!

A) At the start of last year in a 20 team dynasty league , I offered Podesednik for Dan Johnson and Ryan Langerhans. Phew. Podesednik ended up netting me Berkman.
B)Same league , pretty much at the same time , I rejected my Halladay for his Schilling (remembering that Schilling looked stuffed) and Swisher :~( (I only just pried Swisher from him last month)
