I'm a fairly patient guy when it comes to injuries, but Harden seems to be on the Mark Prior career path. Immense talent, just immense, but a complete inability to deal with any sort of ache or pain, which leads to him babying the arm/shoulder, which ends up throwing off the mechanics, and BOOM, Tommy John here we come.
I'm beginning to wonder if at what point the A's just say "F*** it" and move on without him. I own him, I have been patient, but I really think that this guy has been pampered far too long, he's been babied, told he is the "next big thing" all his life, and cant pitch through aches and pains that Nolan Ryan would have laughed at.
Did you guys know that Denny McClain threw almost 400 innings one year? 400 innings, and Rich "Panty Waste" Harden can't even stay healthy pitching 1 inning......out of the pen? Back in McClain's day there was no real workout regimine, none of the stuff that guys can use today to improve their physical health, and these guys threw and threw and threw, and THAT is what made their arms stronger. Today, they treat these guys like babies, and it causes crap like what you see with Harden and Prior.
Not surprising at all, but this whole situation is just comical. Two innings and he is "a little achy." I laughed out loud when I read the blurb on Rotoworld.
Harden (shoulder) admitted that the soreness he felt on Monday was similiar in nature to the pain he felt back in April, the team's web site reports.
ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: "It's similar to before," Harden said. "I felt it on the last hitter, and it's not worth pushing through right now. I tried to put a little something on one of those pitches, and I felt it, so that was it. We'll see how it feels [Tuesday]." Harden owners should know the drill by now: get ready to be without the ace for an extended period of time.
Somehow, I'm not convinced he'll last until July 7th
Rich Harden, who felt "achy'' after one inning against Cleveland the night before, did long toss with manager Bob Geren before Tuesday's game and the session -- which lasted 5 to 10 minutes Geren estimated -- went well. Geren anticipates that Harden will be able to throw two innings Friday or Saturday at Yankee Stadium, and Geren does not believe that a shorter outing than anticipated on Monday would move back Harden's first start date. (When that will be is unclear, but one likely target is July 7, which right now would be fifth starter Lenny DiNardo's spot.)
Jun. 26 - 11:54 pm et Rich Harden threw about 10 minutes of long toss Tuesday and could get into another game Friday or Saturday. Harden complained of some shoulder soreness following his outing Monday, but he'll pitch through it. He could go two innings next time out.
Maybe Smoltz called him up and told him to stop crying like a little baby. Harden's latest aches could just be the result of lack of pitching in games. Maybe it would actually clear up once his shoulder actually gets use to him throwing a baseball.

I'm beginning to think that's all it's been, all along. He keeps getting typical shoulder soreness and interprets it in his mind as something more serious. The A's need to say, "Pitch through it or find another job, ya pansy."
I can just imagine this guy playing catch with his son. After about 5 minutes, he'll clutch his arm and apologize to Junior: "Whoa there kiddo. Daddy's arm feels a little sore. Maybe next week, ok?"
Jun 27 Updating a previous report, Mychael Urban, of Oakland.Athletics.MLB.com, reports Oakland Athletics SP Rich Harden (shoulder) played catch from 125 feet without any further discomfort Tuesday, June 26, one day after suffering some pain during a relief appearance. According to manager Bob Geren, the team will see if Harden can pitch two innings of relief Friday, June 29, or Saturday, June 30.
