Can't say I'm too shocked to see this happen, but it would have been nice to get something better. Barrett was a liability behind the plate and apparently with the staff. Hill seems to be a bit better so far.
Maybe this is addition by subtraction for the Cubs?

I agree, why would the Padres want to add Barrett when Bard is picking it up a bit? (.270 over the last month).
Maybe the Padres are hoping that Barrett can teach Young how to connect on a punch...
Or self control. Young fought back and got suspended. Barrett ended up with 2 black eyes and a busted lip because he didn't fight back.
If Barrett had fought back and broke Zambrano's wrists or stepped on this fingers with his cleats and possibly threatened Zam's career, then MB would have been forever known as a dirty guy who had no love for his team mates or the city of Chicago. By not doing anything to hurt Zam he actually showed how thoughtful and unselfish he was.

Did he learn to land a punch in the last few days? Maybe at a recent YWCA self-defense class? I have yet to see or hear any indication of Barrett's ( ) expertise at landing a punch.

he did clock pierzynski last year ....
I stand corrected. He laid into AJ's neck fat pretty well with that punch...
... then Pods (what a beast) came out and threw Barrett to the ground if I remember correctly.
Man, what a great memory (especially from a Cards' fan's perspective).
Rough day at the office for Barrett... gets knocked 6 feet off the plate by AJ... Takes a swing at AJ's neck fat, then gets body-slammed by the lead-off hitter.
