I honestly dont think this changes his value much. He obviously goes to a bigger park, but he will probably play more days than he would have in Chicago. I'll call it a wash.

How does he play more days going from a team where he knows the pitchers and the backup is Koyie Hill to a team where the other catcher is the one who knows the catcher and it's Josh Bard instead of Koyie Hill? I see his playing time dropping to 2 to 3 games per week.

I'm not sure I'd be content counting on Blanco, I read somewhere that he had a herniated disc in his neck, which is not really the sort of thing that would lead to durability for the long haul...

When healthy I think he gets the majority of work though. If he isn't healthy, I think it'll be more of a platoon.

Well, they already have Bard at C (which is the only position Bard has played in the majors), so I don't know if they're looking at a platoon or what. They already have Adrian Gonzalez at 1B, so neither of them will get moved their. Seems like and odd move for the Padres.
I agree, why would the Padres want to add Barrett when Bard is picking it up a bit? (.270 over the last month).
Maybe the Padres are hoping that Barrett can teach Young how to connect on a punch...

Or self control. Young fought back and got suspended. Barrett ended up with 2 black eyes and a busted lip because he didn't fight back.
