General Roster Question

Alright, I'm not sure if this is the right thread or not, but it made the most since to me. I'm in a 12 team, head to head league on Yahoo with the standard 10 categories. The roster system is C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, and 5 bench spots. I was wondering how offensive players you should have on the bench, how many starters, and how many relievers. Like should it be even, should you focus on having a lot of pitchers, what? Thanks.

I'm in a league with the similar settings.

My current roster is made of 10 pitchers and 11 hitters. I have seven closers (two with SP/RP eligibility), and three reliable starters. It has worked out well for me so far.

I'll usually start the season right about there and vary the roster slightly, depending on injuries and what kind of year my players are having. An example: I'm carrying an extra OF on two teams because Andruw Jones has been a turd this year.

Basically, you need to ask yourself if you use the guy a substantial percentage of the time. If not, then you need to ask if the guy has any trade value, now or in the future. Then, you need to ask yourself if there is a change (either your fantasy team or the real-life team) that has a good chanc of happening that would make your guy useful. If none of these are true, then the guy needs to go... in reality a number or ratio of bench pitcher to bnehc hitters is unnecessary...

I usually keep

10 hitters
11 pitchers

which seems to be the favorite strategy. I go with 4 closers and 7 starters. On the hitters side I have one utility guy such as Wiggington or Figgins that way I can play with the roster and get the most at bats possible and then the next best possible hitter available whether drafted or picked up in FA.

In H2H leagues, I like to keep mainly pitchers on the bench. Maybe 1-2 hitters max. Most of the time, they will be sitting anyway. Of course, this depends on the quality of the WW.
