What odds do you place on Johan Santana ending up on the Mets sometime in the next two years?
If the Twins fall out of the race, it is possible they move him this year.
If the Twins stay in the race, after next year his contract is up and they may look to move him.
If they don't trade him, they likely cannot resign him unless he takes a ubstantial hometown discount to stay.
I'd personally love to see him stay in Minnesota, and I read all the time about how much he likes it there. But the Mets may be in the market for the front of the rotation guy with Glavin exiting soon and who knows what you are going to get from Pedro in the future.
The Mets also have the young talent that could be traded in order to pry Santana away from the Twins early.
My guess....maybe 4:1 odds of Santana being a Met. 2:1 he stays in minnesota. 4:1 he goes somewhere else (Rangers, Yankees etc)
My guess is they hold onto him until next year since they have Liriano coming back. A rotation with Bonser, Santana, Liriano, Slowey, Garza would be lethal. I see no reason for them to trade him now.
I think it is possible Johan ends up somewhere else. I still wouldn't count on Liriano coming back to what he was before he went down though. Too many variables to expect him to dominate like he did.

i don't think any organization is willing to give the package it will take to get johan. If I were Omar I'd give up any package of prospects not involving F-Mart. Example, Pelfrey Humbar, Milledge but I don't think the Twins would take that.
I don't see it happening this year, if they are out of contention next year again its a distinct possibility. Last year should show us, however, that the Twins aren't really out of contention until they're eliminated.

Agreed, the Twins def. have a chance at contending still this season, but I don't think you can base that off of last year since one of the main reasons they were so good in the second half was Liriano. Yeah, he was injured most of August, but he aided them in gaining the momentum they needed to remain in contention for the playoffs.
