Billingsley to start?

Postby CRedsLarkin11 » Tue Jun 19, 2007 11:02 am

Chad Billingsley, not Mark Hendrickson, is the likely replacement starter for the Dodgers' Jason Schmidt (shoulder) on Thursday, according to MLB.com and the Los Angeles Times.
(Updated 06/19/2007).
FANTASY ANALYSIS
Billingsley is a future Fantasy ace and might be one down the stretch this season. Take an immediate flier on him now, especially since he could be a two-start pitcher for Fantasy Week 13 (June 25-July 1). Hendrickson is a lower-end option for deeper NL-only leagues if he were to get the call.

I just picked him, couldn't hurt

Just picked him up as well.

Any ideas on his fantasy value?

I just know that he was pretty highly touted last season and he has been very impressive out of the bullpen so far this season. Hopefully it carries over to starting

He should have been starting out of ST. Hopefully, he'll finally get his chance to re-join the rotation. If he does, you can expect his K/9 to fall a bit, but otherwise if he can sustain his control gains he'll be a quite valuable fantasy starter. But the team has been so brain-dead with his situation I won't be surprised if they give the rotation slot to the batboy instead of Billingsley.

Some of the ESPN chat experts seem to think Schmidt's shoulder is really screwed up and needs surgery, at least I think that's where I read that. I wouldn't be surprised if he's already thrown his last major league pitch this season. He hasn't really been right on the mound for very long for a few years. I view him as an older NL version of Harden, only with less upside because Schmidt is on the downside of the age curve.

This is pretty ridiculous because I wouldn't be surprised if Chad gets thrown back into the bullpen if he gets shelled...

Billingsley to start Thursday.
Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Jason Schmidt will have shoulder surgery in Los Angeles on Wednesday and his return date is uncertain.

"It's very discouraging," Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said before Tuesday's game in Toronto.

Right-hander Chad Billingsley (4-0) will start in Schmidt's place against Toronto on Thursday

The Dodgers announced Tuesday that Schmidt will undergo shoulder surgery Wednesday. At this point, his return date is uncertain. Schmidt was placed on the DL in April after three starts because of inflammation in his shoulder. He returned earlier this month, but he struggled in his past two outings. He admitted that the condition of his shoulder has not changed much since spring training.
Fantasy Source spin: Shoulder surgery isn't something that pitchers bounce back from quickly, and there is a very real possibility that Schmidt won't be back this season. Chad Billingsley has taken Schmidt's rotation spot for the Dodgers. Owners will have to do their best to find a replacement for fantasy rotations.

Another waste of a pick-up on a prospect.Hughs and Lincecum were the BEST of the season and this isn't the year for Rookie Pitchers.Grab a good reliable veteran insted if you can.

MOST Rookies are to inconsistent.
