theres no reason Gomes shouldnt be starting everyday. 20 and 21 HR each of the last 2 seasons. his AVG wasnt very good last season but he also had shoulder trouble which is all better now yes? he should be the starting DH over Greg Norton.

I would guess that 220 BA has something to do with him not starting everyday.
Gomes issues last year stemmed from the shoulder injury, which also prevented him from playing in the outfield from what I remember. He's a scrappy guy with definite 30 HR potential, who should be starting somewhere, IMO.
He's also the kind of guy people love to watch, since he hustles every day and is the kind of player who takes nothing for granted. I'd love to see him get a full time spot, but that's up to him and his manager. He might need a new team for it to happen though, for as others have pointed out, TB is stacked with young talent.

Tampa Bay IS stacked with young talent, but surely that doesn't include Greg Norton. Who else is in the DH picture in TB? Why wouldn't Gomes be a favorite for the job?

Gomes is out of the DH picture for a little while mainly due to the fit he through when he got sent down to Durham this year. It was definitely out of character though, so it is possible he could work his way back into that role.

Also when Rocco and Upton are back in the lineup they may have Rocco DH and Upton play CF with Wiggy at 2B
