I agree; there's no reason why Pronk shouldn't have been in there today.
1) It was a righty on the hill
2) The Indians offense had been scuffling a bit lately
3) He had already had some time off recently because of Interleague play
4) He's a DH, so he really should be good to go 162 time a year
I guess Wedge was just giving him a day off to try to let him regroup and bring something when he gets back. I don't know if that kind of thing works, but managers seem to try it a lot. I also don't know if there has been a drastic anotomical change to Hafner, as proposed here by the original poster; but I sure hope Hafner gets back to his old self in the second half and proves once and for all that he's "all man."
