NL-only E-MAIL SILENT AUCTION LEAGUE

Postby NLrotoauction » Sat Jan 31, 2004 1:21 pm

Want to be in an NL-only rotisserie auction but can't find the 10-16 hour block of time in your schedule? Join our E-MAIL AUCTION LEAGUE.

Here's how it works: we will bid on ten players at a time. You will send in bids for any/all the players you care to. A player will go to the team with the highest bid, but his salary will be the amount of the second highest bid plus $1. This will simulate a live auction.

We will start as soon as we have 12 owners on board. At that point, we will work out all the other rules as a group (via a ballot), like categories, keeper or not, entry fee, reserve lists, FA pickups, stat service, etc. The only thing set in stone now is the silent auction described above and that it will be NL-ONLY.

If interested, reply and leave your e-mail address below. I will check this once a day and get back to you.

there is one major flaw with the silent auction idea. who do you send the emails to? you? if everyone sends the emails to you, you're gonna know what everyone bids and can adjust your bids accordingly.

I can think of three different ways to address your concern: 1) we could each take turns receiving the bids / declaring winners or 2) the commisioner could e-mail his bids in a password-protected file to everyone in the league when he announces who will be auctioned off next (then the password would be revealed when the winners announced so that everyone else could look at the file to make sure he hadn't fudged anything or 3) we could have an AOL screename/e-mail address that everyone in the league had the password for (AOL has a feature in their mailboxes that allows the person looking at it to tell whether a given e-mail has been opened or not).

This issue is really not a problem at all. There are ways around it.

Whether it is free or not will depend on what the 12 owners decide.

entry fee

Now that I think about it, there would have to be at least some kind of entry fee to pay for the stat service. Whether it is more than the stat service fee divided by 12 would be up to the group as a whole.
