Salty to get a start at 1B

Postby SteveJeltzPhanClub » Thu Jun 14, 2007 7:26 pm

He's in the lineup (6/14) with what i think is his first start at 1B! I'm in a league that requires two catchers, and couldn't be more happy about my decision to drop Dionner Navarro two weeks ago and pick up Salty- he's been great!

Ooh, this is an interesting development. I'm in a 2 catcher league, too, where I have Doumit and McCann. Salty's available - maybe I should drop Doumit and grab him if he's going to get this additional playing time...

I heard the same thing. But,The Braves are shrewd.I think Mccaan might be getting traded to keep a low payroll Salty around.Possibly freeing up some $$$$ for Andruw.

This is great news for Salty and McCann owners alike if Salty gets a perm spot at 1B.

As a Braves fan, living here in Atlanta, I can say that in my opinion, there is almost no chance that the Braves would trade away Brian McCann. He grew up here, is hugely popular with the home crowd, and they have built a huge marketing campaign around him and Francouer being local boys.

I'm not saying ti can't happen, but I see it as extremely unlikely. Much more of a chance that someone like Thorman would get traded, as I think they are really hoping to get Saltalamachia in the lineup as often as possible.

I believe Andruw Jones will be traded fairly soon.

There is NO WAY the Braves will trade Brain McCann. My guess is that they'll try to get Salty to become a regular 1B, or they'll try to trade him for a top player on another organization. McCann is too valuable to that franchise in both is ability and image.

Don't look for McCann to get traded to accommodate Salty. Salty's defensive skills are mediorcre at best. From what I read, teams love to run on him. But 1B eligibility is great.

His bat is what makes him special. Defensively, he is mediocre at best. He generally short-hops throws to second, consistantly enough that when he actually gets it to second on the fly, the Braves announcers mention it as out of the ordinary.
