He pitched much better than what his final line was. He should have been yanked after 6 IP with 1ER and sub 1 WHIP.... he gave up a homer in the 7th and left one man on, who got knocked in due to Villenueva.

I wouldnt frown at his start.

Watched the game. He had good control. Looked a little nervous in the first inning. His line after 6 was 3 hits 1ER and 2BB's and 4 K's. Was pretty much unhittable from the 2nd inning to the end of the 6th. He looked like he ran out of gas in the 7th. a leadoff home run and a walk, then villanueva proceeded to give up a 3 run home run to Durham. Gave up 4 hits and 3 walks (2 to Bonds) and was pretty impressive. Much better than the Lincecum and Bailey debuts.

Very impressive first start for Yovani. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come and he can stay up with the big club after Cappy comes back. ;D

Jun 26 Adam McCalvy, of Milwaukee.Brewers.MLB.com, reports Milwaukee Brewers SP Yovani Gallardo will get at least one more start Friday, June 29, before likely moving to the bullpen. KFFL

Jun 26 The Brewers appear to be leaning toward sending Gallardo to the bullpen after Chris Capuano comes off of the DL on July 3rd, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Recommendation: The Brewers would love to find a way to get Gallardo into the rotation, but they also want to limit his innings this season. He'll likely head to the bullpen and get a chance to start a few more games later this year.

probably a decent move my the brewers, save his arm and use him at the end. sucks for us gallardo faithful that waited for the call up. guess ill be dropping him when this happens.

Wow, this isn't good news. I don't understand it...he pitched very well in his two starts, and he was pitching the same number of innings in the minors, so why throw him in the bullpen? He has to be better than at least one of their five starters, and he'd be much more valuable to the Brewers the more innings he were to pitch. Just seems silly to me.

It might not stick... He's proven he is an effective starter. I just can't see him staying in the bullpen if the Brewers start to slide in the rankings. Go Cubs!

But now there's news of Bush or Vargas going to the pen.
From the Bush thread
"Another glimmer of hope for Bush fans, bad news for Gallardo fans: "Whomever does not start the series finale(Bush or Vargas) would spend 11 days in the bullpen, Yost said, then would rejoin the rotation when Gallardo shifts to relief.""

So seems like Bush/Vargas is going to the pen for only a brief stint.

I have no idea why they would continue to use Vargas over Gallardo. In no way am I dropping Gallardo though. Sheets and Gallardo at the top of the rotation would be the NL Counterpart to Santana/Liriano...

It is clear that Gallardo will be in the rotation for sure in September..perfect time for H2H playoffs..he will be pitching in the pen in July and August to keep his innings down.
