Bill Hall Hot Again

Postby imblotto » Wed Jun 13, 2007 10:14 pm

One of the streakiest hitters in baseball, Hall was 3-3 today with a home run. He has been hitting the ball hard the other way recently, often a sign that he is coming around.

Just a thought for Hall owners, start him while he's hot.

Heck, he was even 0-0 with 3BB against Verlander and his no-no yesterday.

This is Hall's MO and the reason why he can be frustrating from a fantasy and a Brewer fan standpoint. But man is he fun to watch when he locks in, he just rips the ball time in and time out. The Tigers have yet to get him out in this series (Verlander walked him 3 times).

Real nice I need some production from him, but most people who drafted him expecting this droughts. Sure its fusturating but at least you know withh Hall that is it will turn around and then he will start to rake.

I have Berkman's suspension to thank for having Hall in my lineup tonight :> I'd still like to see a few more games of production before declaring Hall "back". He's had moments this year stringing together a couple multi-hit games, only to follow them with several o-fers. Hall is frustrating trying to predict (and those monster games are painful to see on your bench). Though for the 3rd year in a row, he's doing much better against lefties (OPS 200 points higher than against righties).

Bill Hall's peripherals look a lot like Alfonso Soriano in that they're very strange. He flys out WAY more than he grounds out, strikes out a ton, and was still productive last year.

I'm still not very high on Bill Hall - he needs to prove his play style can produce good numbers over multiple seasons - there aren't many players out there with a ground out to fly out ratio as low as his last year (0.7 ish) and a batting average on balls in play as high as it was last year (.323).

These are warning flags to me at least - his swing produces a lot of fly balls, so the HR should come (although I don't see him as a 30+ HR guy) but a repeat of his .270 average is not looking great (he looks like a .255 hitter) and his stolen bases have dried up.

If you can stomach the streaks he can still be useful, but don't overpay for him in a trade.

I did a piece on him at my blog on Monday that takes his season apart a bit:

Hall was a great buy the last couple of seasons but I don't think he will be nearly as valuable this year.

Yeah, he def. has had a good couple games, but I don't think its enough to get excited about. He has shown signs of breaking out throughout the year, but always seems to go right back into slumping again shortly thereafter

Any chance of Bill recapturing any of last year's value at this point in the season?

I think you'll be fine with Hall, as long as you don't get a little overexcited about him.
I think he's a .275, 25HR, handful of steals kind of player.
