Alfonseca has been doing well, but Geary is still the "official" closer on their depth chart. With Myers coming back, there is even more ambiguity. Does anyone have any idea who they will use going forward?
Ok, just got this off the Philadelphia Daily News...
Replacement closer Brett Myers threw lightly off the mound yesterday, but he is not expected to throw hard until tomorrow or Friday. Myers landed on the DL on May 24 with a right shoulder strain.
Neither [Myers nor Gordon] is expected to come off the DL for at least 2 weeks, general manager Pat Gillick said.
It doesn't speak of who would close if all were healthy, but it speaks to a loose timetable for Myers's return.

Well, that news is disappointing. I thought Myers was eyeing returning early next week (around the 18th).
with garcia getting injured, i could see myers going back to the rotation when he returns. flash should be back around the same time and he could take over as the closer. plus the bullpen has been great over the last few weeks. it could depend on how well kendrick pitches (pitching now, gave up 3 er through 4)

Damn it man!!!! Have you learned nothing?!?!? That makes waaaaay tooooo much sense for the Phillies management to ever consider.
No Charlie will leave old 6 finger in the closers role, put Myers in long relief, pitching 3 innings every 5 days when the 5th starter that doesn't belong in the majors gets pounded and use Gordon as a middle reliever the other 4 days until he lands back on the DL. To help the situation Pat Gillick will go out and bring Wayne Gomes and Chad Ogea out of retirement and trade their top 3 prospects for Chan Ho Park or Bruce Chen. That's Phillies management for you. The Phillies would be in first place by plenty if they had people who knew what they were doing running the show.
3 runs in 6 innings vs team that has scored the fewest runs in the majors isn't very impressive, but I'm sure Charlie will say it's the best thing he's since...well he can't remember because of the mad-cow.
HEY, considering April, the Phils are on a pace to WIN 94 games.
Throw in another minor slump and a good winning streak and it will even things out. The PHILS ARE a 31-20 team. That means they WILL win somewhere around 95 WINS.
Start making your playoff plans, and otherwise, get out your noise makers if you can't make it to the stadium.
In contrast to last JUNE the Phils have FOUR bonafide major league pitchers instead of ONE, with one guy worrying about a trade, and the other guy ( god rest his soul ) who was not really good. That was followed by TWO guys with various names who do not even start anywhere in the majors.
THE PHILS ARE FOR REAL. They are now just TWO AND A HALF GAMES OUT OF FIRST PLACE.
Just think, Howard is just getting started, and the bullpen is just settling in. The Phils have room to improve, now that the walking wounded have been banished.
ONLY ONE TEAM HAS THE BEST RECORD IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE SINCE APRIL, that is THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES.
THIS IS A BALANCED TEAM WITH THREE BONA FIDE CLOSERS, when healthy and FOUR bona fide starters. That is all you need in the playoffs. Add the BEST offense in the National league and you are set.
Chollie should be in the running for manager of the year
