I also started in the early 90's. I worked with the commish so I got the stats handed to me while most other owners had to wait for it in the mail. We did a lot by telephone. The ONE nice thing about it was I seemed to actually talk to other owners more often. Seems like all the talking is done on email now.
All the stats were done by hand. Back then you really appreciated your commish, not that I don't now. Commish's that did stats by hand put in a lot of time.

Oh yeah. I think it was around 1996 when a guy took Robin Ventura in the first round. We are still laughing.

The guys in my league laughed when a new guy took Javy Lopez in the first round last year! It doesn't look so bad now.

Yeah, but he could have gotten him much later in the draft and picked someone else in the first. I doubt anyone else was looking to draft Javy prior to the 10th rd. Still a bad pick.

What about IM'ing? That seems fairly comparable to the telephone.

Yeah I don't think any of us were looking to draft Javy period!

Thought I would resurrect this ancient topic for some more 80's and 90's nostalgia!
I rememeber one year we had our only $50 player ever - Barry Bonds. It blew our minds.
