47 HR's and 131 RBI's

Thome in 2001 playing in the AL

Runs 101 Hits 153 HR's 49 RBI's 124 Walks 111 SO's 185

Thome in 2003 playing in the NL

Runs 111 Hits 154 HR's 47 RBI's 131 Walks 111 SO's 182

Get your facts right WRVERES

Thome is a bad example for the point you are trying to make.

01 Thome RC/27 9.23 OPS+ 169
02 Thome RC/27 10.92 OPS+ 193
03 Thome RC/27 7.52 OPS+ 151

While Thome had a good year in Philly, it wasn't as good as 01, and really quite away from 02. The difference is Thome's huge splits at the Jake, where he posted 150-200 higher ops then road. I agree with ARLO and GTWMA assessments.

With inter-league play I think the players know the other parks, leagues and pitchers much better than they used to. AL pitchers moving the NL (Clemens + Pettitte) will now have to bat AND run. I look for them to have more injuries early. Batters? No real problem when you're talking Vlad or Sheff. I would put Vlad in the top three hitters (with A-Rod and Pujols) and Sheff in the top ten...even with the moves.

is this guy screaming at me? . Interesting ... :-?

as was pointed out to you already .. yes, Thome did struggle coming over ..

Since runs and rbis are a team dependent stat, and obvioussly Philly was a little better than Cleveland in this regard in '03. Now Thome has always been a 2nd half player, but if it wasn't for those 20 homers he hit during the last 7 weeks of the season it would have been a huge dissapointment.

I guess there is no need to point out his .266 BA vs the .300 and .291 he posted the two years before.
Oh thats right.... most of the people here don't really pay attn to BA. It not an important stat ;-7 so sorry ... you were right. Thome fit into the NL just perfectly... :-D

Vlad is a top 5 pick (possibly number 3) even aftter the league switch. He is a bonafide stud.

I've got Vlad at #3 or #4 overall. :-) I'd have no problem drafting him, in fact, I recently acquired him in a keeper league. :-B

Wrong again WRVERES!

In fact Thomes career numbers are overall slightly better in the 1st half.

Last season his 1st half and 2nd half stats were very similar.

24 / 23 HR split etc.

Never let it be said that WRVERES lets the facts get in the way of a good story.

Yeah I wouldn't hesitate to take Vlad in the top 5. He may steal fewer bags though. 8-o

this is such a stupid point, because its just Jim Thome.
But I do have principals, even against a coward. ;-7
Funny cus' I am usually the first one to admit when I make a mistake too. LOL ... oh well. here ya go ... Thomes last three years .
Thome 2001
april-may-june- 73 games ... 21 hrs ... 45 runs ... 45 rbis
july-aug-sept --76 games .... 28 hrs .. 55 runs ... 75 rbis
thats alot of "pop" for only three extra games ..

Thome 2002
april-may-june- 80 games ... 24 hrs .. 43 runs ... 57 rbis
july-aug-sept -- 67 games.. 28 hr .. 58 runs ... 61 rbis
13 less games but better more prodution overall .

Thome 2003
april-may-june- 78 games ... 21 hrs .. 54 runs ... 58 rbis
july-aug-sept -- 81 games.. 26 hrs .. 57runs ... 73 rbis

there ya go ...
Anything else? Oh yeah, what was the "good story?" ;-)
