That it is and I can't do anything about that one. :o

Yet something else to add to the list... :C

Nice work on the article. Id be willing to bet that a lot of managers here benefit from that information.

One criticism is that as the year goes on that kind of data will change. It might have been even more valuable to show people where you got the information.

ie. give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime...

good work though

EDIT: my apologies i didn't realize you had said you got the info from BP. Considering you already answered the one criticism i had, this is a great piece

Thanks!

I may go ahead and post monthly updates to this as well. Since I wrote the article Detroit has been slowly creeping into the same realm as Boston - the 'why would you even think about starting ANY pitcher against them' club.

I just went through and reran the numbers up through July 1st's games. No need for another article on this so I'll just post the up-to-date numbers on my own web site and link it from here.

Team Scoring through July 1st, 2007
Team Scoring through June 4th, 2007

Raw Excel file with both dates

Just a few notes for anyone that decides to play with the raw Excel file. First, the data is an amalgam of information from Baseball Prospectus and the team batting page from the 2007 stat page of Doug's NBA & MLB Statistics Home Page. I like to credit my sources. Second, I've hidden several columns for readability purposes. You could certainly bump them back out to see them all but they don't fit on my monitor at work if I don't hide them all. :-b

As promised, here's your August 1st update.

The links in my previous post have been updated for consistency with my new format. The full Excel spreadsheet linked there is also updated. In addition the year-to-date through August 1st page is up and running.

I've also came up with a little addition to this. While it's worthwhile to see how an offense has done over the course of the year, players get injured (or they come back), they get hot (or their bat goes cold)...in other words, things change and the full year's totals, while meaningful, might not mean as much as a team's recent returns. To that end, I simply took my August 1st numbers, subtracted my July 1st numbers, and you now have your July scoring page goodness.
