other than him spelling him name incorrectly, anything wrong with him to make me think he won't keep up the low ERA. i read on yahoo that he is due for a decline...this true?
He had a couple strings of 3 or 4 good starts last year too, but he generally gave up 4+ runs. He's an okay pitcher, and I'm playing him while he's hot, but it's not like he was a top prospect, and he's due for a drop off at some point.
I think the key stat is his K/BB ratio. 77/59 last year, and 22/5 so far this year. Also, his K/9 was around 4.5 last year, and is over 9 so far this year. He's hitting his spots, and I'll be starting him until he proves he can't.

That was Rich Hill. We were discussing Sean Marshall who goes tonight.
p.s. How can you not get excited about Rich Hill's outting? Even though he owns the Braves, he dropped his ERA to 2.71 and his WHIP below 1. And he looked nasty. He was throwing his curve ball so that it would sweep across the plate sometimes and break straight down sometimes (very affective against right handed hitters). Then against a lefty in the 8th he dropped his delivery down and the guy didn't have a chance. He had 3 shaky starts in a row, but he has now given up a total of 2 ER in his last 3 starts (21 Innings), and although 2 of those were the Braves, 1 was at the Dodgers.
D'oh! Knew I should have double-checked before I posted.
Yeah, Hill is an exciting player, and his performance last night is in line with other stuff he's been doing at both the ML and MiL level throughout his career. He's good.
Marshall... not so much. He might be a servicable guy eventually, but I don't think I'd be starting him at this point.

I think you might be underestimating Marshall. No, he's not an elite talent and wasn't supposed to be. But if I recall, he was a fairly highly touted prospect that projected to be a solid mid-rotation guy.

i think i'll keep using him until his k/9 and/or k rate drops off. as long as he keeps those up, i'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he's learned a new pitch or developed better control or SOMETHING and keep throwing him out there.

Guys projected for mid-rotation aren't generally good fantasy guys in their first couple seasons though. I'm holding onto him and playing him until he gets blown up though - then he's gone.

I don't disagree with that. My point was that he might be a solid mid-rotation guy NOW. He's been historically plagued by walks but, in the last few starts anyway, has walked very few. Maybe he just got lucky or maybe he turned the corner. If you've got a stacked fantasy rotation already, there's no need to speculate on Marshall. But if you don't, he's the sort of guy worth speculating on, IMO, especially since he was almost certainly undrafted and available for the price of an add-drop.
