Why do intentional walks count against a pitchers WHIP???

Because intentional or not, they are still walks.

I was just thinking about the the other day...it sucks that they count against WHIP, but I guess it makes sense.

Its just like how hit batters doesnt count against WHIP. It probably should, but its just not the definition of the stat. Its walks+hits/IP unintentional or intentional, its still a walk.
