Juan Acevedo is the front runner for the closer's job in Pitt. He saved 28 games in 2002 for Det. Last year he played for NYY and TOR. He is problably good for 20-25 saves if he gets the gig in PITT this season.
Interesting.....Have you got a link or an article about it? Saves are saves, right?
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
anyone remember when Acevedo blew Clemens 300th win in Chicago? He came in, in relief in like the 7th and on the very first pitch he throws he gives up a 3run Homer to Eric Karros.

I think it was discussed on Rototimes' player notes today. Nope, just checked it and it's not there. I remember reading that somewhere as well, though, so I know it's a possibility.
OK, I found it, it was in the Pirates team summary in the Rototimes Magazine that just came out. They were merely making an assumption, though. Badger, did you read it somewhere different?

For Acevedo, who signed a minor league deal with the club this offseason, minicamp will serve as his first opportunity to impress his new team. He saved 28 games for the Detroit Tigers in 2002 and is considered a top candidate for the closer's spot with the Pirates.
