Cardinals outfielder Preston Wilson said surgery will be needed to correct his ailing knee and that the only question is what kind of surgery. His options are a scope that puts him out of the lineup for six weeks to two months or a more invasive procedure — microfracture surgery — that will end his season. ... Wilson said the trouble in his knee dates back to spring training when he ran into the wall tracking a fly ball. He said he received treatment at the time but felt there was pressure to play his way onto the team. He said with a one-year contract and knew he had to get through the knee trouble to win a job. He had his knee drained of fluid on opening day.

I hate to say it, because Preston seems like a good guy, but whatever keeps him off the roster is a plus.
